Door Girlz
Mentorship • Training • Community
The Door Girlz Development Program is a community-focused initiative designed to give up-and-coming comics a foot in the door of the Los Angeles comedy scene through The Crow, Santa Monica’s newest comedy club! Our goal is to provide meaningful stage opportunities that genuinely help comedians advance professionally in their careers, while fostering a strong, supportive culture around live comedy and club operations.
At its most simple iteration: Door Girlz do just that! They volunteer for a shift (most shifts are 3-4 hours), assisting with check-in for audience members at the door and performing basic opening & closing duties alongside Crow staff. They get to perform the “Cold Open” sets at the shifts they work.
Door Girlz will meet every quarter for stage advancement opportunities and feedback sessions with the club owner/booker. They will also be eligible to audition for an official cold open at Bergamot Comedy Fest and will be promoted as a passed comic at The Crow.
Door Girlz are the BACKBONE and leaders of our community of The Crow. We will come together to celebrate each other's wins, help each other grow, and share hugs, tears, and beers. Social hangs included!

Who We’re Looking For
Comedians who we have seen working on their craft for a while through our open mics, or who have submitted a tape that reflects they have been working on standup for years before arriving at The Crow.
The Crow’s mission is to uplift voices that have historically not been given equal opportunities for stage time and development, but ALL are welcome to apply.
Requirements
Submit online application.
Complete 1 in-person training session.
Volunteer 5 shifts (completing a Sexual Harassment Prevention Course counts as 1 shift). This will serve as a “probation period” where we evaluate mutual fit.
After 5 shifts, you will be eligible to perform 3-minute Cold Opens at stand-up shows.
We highly encourage participants to sign up for both performance and non-performance roles to fully support the club and its mission. The Club Operations Manager will be sure that all Door Girlz get a fair shot at shifts and stage times, and will do their best to attach your comedy style to shows they think you will succeed on.
We ask that you commit to work two shifts per month, either performance or non-performance. You can sign up for more!
Perks + Ongoing Development
Every 3 months, an “Evaluation Mic” will be held at the club where Nicole, the club owner/booker, will provide notes, feedback, and consider potential promotions within the program or club structure so you can further hone your craft, voice, and stage presence. Get an opportunity to get notes on what you can do to win a spot at Bergamot Comedy Fest, possibly.
Audition to cold open Bergamot Comedy Fest showcases.
Rotating open mic host of Slice Mic! Hosting weekly open mic for 6 months, with option to extend to (1) one year
Holiday parties at The Crow bring Door Girlz gifts! Professional performer stage pictures by a Crow photographer along with Door Girlz merch!
“Door Girlz on The Street” videos will be used for our social media! Barking can help, and so can good comedy content! Door Girlz will be featured on our social media.
Your time and effort will be recognized, and we aim to support those who actively support the space.
FAQs
-
Absolutely! We want folks who align with and support The Crow’s mission.

Most shifts are from 7-10 PM Wednesdays through Saturdays, but we DO have daytime shows on weekends, and occasional nights with later shows. We understand that you are volunteering your time so we aim to respect that through a tight shift where you check-in audience members up top, get to perform, and then enjoy a show. The staff may ask you to help in snapping pictures of the comedians so we can tag them on our Instagram story. At the end of the night you, the bartender, and tech person will all help clean and close up the space.
-
Yes, you are free to leave the program at any time. We appreciate communication and if there’s a reason for leaving that we can know to better the program, we’d love to hear it! If you need to take a break and would like to rejoin us, communicate that as well!
