Want to learn the basics of stand-up comedy? Join our Stand Up (Beginner) Class that culminates in a showcase on one of The Crow stages!
Find your personal comedic voice and point of view! This course helps you write your own material and learn the concepts of joke structure, story building, premise, and punchline, all while building confidence in public speaking and communication. We work on stage presence, finding courage to keep going when the going gets rough, thinking on your feet, and finding the funny! This 6-week course meets once a week for 3 hours, culminating in a public stand-up/storytelling show on one of The Crow stages.

This course is designed for storytellers who want to craft more stories, write longer, more ambitious material, develop a one-person show, or strengthen a story they've already told. Over 6 weeks, we work on advanced storytelling craft, more sophisticated comedy techniques, and finding the through-line that makes your stories feel unmistakably, uniquely you. You’ve got stage time. You’ve got material. But you’re leaving laughs on the table. This class is designed for comedians who are already performing and want to turn their material into a stronger, more cohesive, and more effective set.
We’ll focus on:
Going deeper with your material
Finding what’s missing in your jokes
Restructuring bits and transitions
Building flow, rhythm, and momentum in your set
Strengthening your performance on stage
Beyond the material, this class is also about what comes next — how to start thinking and operating like a working comedian.
We’ll cover:
How to build and sustain real stage time
When and how to position yourself for opportunities
What it actually takes to move from hobbyist to working comic
Each student will receive individual feedback and guidance based on where they are and what they’re trying to build.

Learn the elements that make up a successful pitch, the importance of ‘why me’ and ‘why now’, and have time for Q&A at the end as well.
What does it take to create a dynamic pitch that will capture the attention of a film or TV executive? In this workshop, we’ll go over all the elements that make a successful pitch, and get your dream project communicated in the best way possible. We’ll discuss: who are the right people to hear the pitch, the stages of people to pitch to, how to construct a pitch (with templates to be shared), creating pitch materials, to be used both before and after a pitch, and the importance of leaving your audience knowing the ‘why me’ and the ‘why now’.
Time for Q&A at the end as well.
